20-22 june: Drag race in Drachten.

Last year there were no race at the track, but Dutch racers club eXplosion managed to get the Drachten airstrip back on the calender. The track was made longer, and most of the white markers are gone now. The "new" drag strip was officially opened on friday morning, and racing started after that. A serie of four qualifying sessions were held that day, and another. four rounds on saturday, so everybody had enough track time to adjust the bike to the conditions. We were extremely lucky with the weather. While in other part of Holland golfball size hailstones caused a lot of damage, we were enjoying a great race on sunday, with only a strong head wind, spoiling some of the fun. Three riders from Belgium came out this time. Marc Vandenboer had build a frame around his engine and new gearbox.

His bike still needs a lot of testing to get it in shape.

Ludo Scheepens managed to qualify for the race on sunday.

Marc van Deursem was present with Marc Vandenboer's old motor, but he still needs to learn how to use it as a race bike.

Piet Verhoef lives in Drachten, and was very happy all weekend. A new dragstrip in his back garden!

The fact that he didn't qualify could not spoil his weekend.

As expected, Brian Glaesner was the quickest and fastest. He qualified number one with a 4.84 second pass.

Dris Hamadi was number two with a 5.10 on the ex-Glaesner Buell, and Full Throttle team of Harry wan Schie was delighted with two runs of 5.18 sec.

A new personal best for Harry.

Herman Jolink had a brand new 999RS engine in his frame.

Just like his last motor, Herman enlarged it to 1214 cc, but raised the compression a little, and used other pistons. He went 5.7, then 5.6, and then came pretty close to his personal best with 5.48 seconds. Jolink qualified number five, and was sent home in the first round of eliminations by Frank Heitmann, who qualified number four and advanced to the semi finals.

Roman Sixta came all the way up from the Czech republic to race his supercharged Honda.

He did not go home on saturday evening this time. Now his gearbox survived qualifications, but broke during his quarter final race on sunday against Harry van Schie. Harry could have won, but redlighted. With Roman's engine broken, Dris Hamadi got a free ride into the finals, to meet Brian. No supprises, Brian Glaesner deserved the win.

Frank Heitmann still leads the championship, but Brian jumps to second place, less than 100 points (one round) behind Frank.

The pointlist is online, and the results can be viewed here.

Thanks to all the crew of eXplosion, it was great.

Now I'm off to Luckau, and then there is Drachten again!!!
