Newsflash: a little video report about Marc van den Boer on his new bike in Bechyne added!!!

2011 euroserie supertwin topgas championship.

The third race in euroserie, Drachten, the Netherlands.
A three day event, a quarter mile dragrace at a small airstrip, about 210 racers in different classes, and a lot of bad weather predicted.

Six riders were present in supertwin topgas on friday, and they had to wait untill the afternoon to start qualifications, because it rained till noon.
Except for Belgian Marc van den Boer. He and his mechanic spent the first day wrenching to finish the build of the new supercharged dragbike, and they got it to run and tech inspected by the end of the day.

Bernd Niessen is the proud father of a new born baby daughter and preferred to stay at home this time. But his Alu-Buell was at the track and former owner Gerd Caspari got to play with it all weekend. His brother Ully got promoted to crewchief of team "Eight Ball" to assist and tow him back.

Gerd entered the funny bike class, so he would not mess up our championship. His main goal was to check and test the recently fitted blower. He gathered valuable data to refine the setup further, while racing the bike like he used to do. Cord Albers, also in the team, suffers from a serious back injury, and is unfortionately not able to race. I hope he gets well soon.

Czech rider Milan Kolacny on his Honda was the quickest after round one with an 8.67 seconds pass.

Second came Herman Jolink, Ducati, from Holland with 8.8, using only five gears.

Team "Full Throttle" also from Holland, had their badly damaged cylinder head repaired, and rider Harry van Schie took it easy on the first pass, to check things out.

During the second attempt the starter engine broke badly, and even wounded mechanic Jaap on his left hand. The starter was welded and repaired in a nearby workshop, and Jaap was stiched up at the hospital and later that day the team was race ready again.

Honda racer Christian Bruhn from Germany left strong,

but did a 9.4 and suffered damage to to a cylinder head at top end of the track.

Team Sideburns had the spare parts, and started to repair, but also was busy trying to get Peter Niklas' Ducati to go fast in the superstreettwin class,

resuling in a low 10 sec pass and a new personal best.

We saw the first appearance this year of Lando Beugelsdijk on his S&S "X-wedge" powered Buell. Lando qualified third with an 8.9, but was not happy with his engine,

Lando packed in early and went home on saturday afternoon.

Belgian racer Criss van Nimmen had been rebuilding his engine last week and arrived on friday evening. By that time a total of four qualification rounds were held before it rained again, and did not stop till late saturday afternoon.

The track crew of eXplosion did a very good job, and kept sweeping and using the track dryer all day untill it finally cleared up. At half past four the track was prepaired again and all riders got another shot to beat the clock. Milan and Harry had a problem to stay in a straight line and closed the throttle.

Milan was not able to better the time of his first attempt.

Harry van Schie was, and moved to fourth place with a 9.0. passing Christian. Then all eyes were focussed on Vandenboer and his new bike.
He uses a mechanical fuel injection system, and he needs to find a base line set up. The bike stopped after the burnout, so Marc went back to line up again. Then Herman Jolink did his best 60 foot and 200 meters time of the weekend doing 206 kmh halfway. Herman had spent the rainy morning to re-adjust the shift mechanism and was able to find all six gears again. But his battery went dead before he made it to the finish line. Still his second best time of all five runs, 8.79 with only 208kmh end speed. So it could have been a good one, and gave Herman confidence he could beat Milan's best time so far.

Then Criss van Nimmen had his first shot,

but could not set a decent time, breaking the throttle cable halfway down the track.
Then Marc van den Boer got another try.

The bike sounded very loud and powerfull during the big rolling burnout, and then stopped again. All teams hurried back to the pits and had their bikes checked and prepaired in record time, because there was a slight chance of another round.

They even got the first call, but a delay was caused by a race car, the track had to be cleaned and we passes the "loudness curfew" and soon after that dark clouds moved in and lots of rain spoiled the fun for even the "silent" classes.

(Mitch de Haas, right lane, vs Gijs van Schie in the Junior dragbike class)

The rock band in the big tent was not affected by this curfew and there was a nice party till the wee hours. Next morning Bruhn and his team had the turbocharged Honda repared, Herman had a shift light mounted to the bike and functioning and Criss van Nimmen even fitted an on board camera to capture the action from his Harley. But the rain kept coming down and the expected clear period on sunday did not come in time to hold a race anymore. so we all packed. This was the first race of a serie of three times Drachten, and points are also earned for the "Open championship of the Netherlands".

Milan Kolacny was able to win it in superstreettwin class last year, and now takes the lead in ONK-supertwin topgas.

Herman Jolink went home with the most points earned for the Euroserie, as he picked up the 25 point "high speed bonus" for doing 252kmh.

Herman leads the championship for ten races in a row now, and all others have four more chances left to try and pass him this year. Milan Kolacny is his biggest threat.

So no podium picture this time but a photo of a proud Bernd Niessen and his daughter instead.

Many congratulations to him and his wife.

Marc van den Boer went to Bechynê , Czech republic, one week later, to test and set up his new bike and Milan Kolacny was also there, and Roman Sixta with his topfueler, it was noisy! The track was well prepaired, And Big Daddy Jerry Lackey and the MSTO did a good job making it a nice race.

Here's a little you tube report:

Marc starts and checks his new home made bike here:

After a check out half pass on friday, Marc took it to the track for a first full run on saturday:

Straight as an arrow, Marc was happy with this.

Second round he broke the throttle cable:

Third round improved: 8.7 sec:

Then even a little better, and it is clear that Marc is ready to give the rest of the class some serious competion , in a few weeks at Drachten already.

A sixty foot time of 1.2, and the bike keeps pulling till the end. Saturday evening Marc put more weight on the clutch, but next mornig he had troubles firing up the bike. He blames it on a broken gasket, didn't want to hurt the bike, so signed off on sunday at noon, and watched the rest of the action:

See you all soon in Drachten!
