2011 Season's review:

(Jolink vs. Kolacny)

It all started sunny and bright with a friendly race in Hoskovice, Czech republic.
We felt very welcome and they baked us a cake. No problems so far. Team van Schie impressed everyone with a 7.9 seconds pass, but then wrecked a cylinder head of the supercharged motor, that set them back for some time.

Frank Heitmann could not get his motor running well at Hoskovice, and he was not seen at a track anymore this year. Cord Albers was also missed this season, he suffered serious back problems and was unable to race or help Frank with his bike. Bernd Niessen became father again, and spend some time with the family, but returned strong at the end of the season after his mechanic/coach and former owner of the bike Gerd Caspari tested Bernd's Alu-Buell a few times to get the new blower setup to function.

On the way home from Czech rebublic, both teams of Harry van Schie and Herman Jolink wrecked their camper vans on the highway, far away from home.

Herman Jolink won the first race, here he is on the podium with Chris van Nimmen and Milan Kolacny.

Jolink made it back in time to Hoskovice for round two of the serie, to meet only two other teams: Milan Kolacny and Christian Bruhn. An all time low entree list for STTG.
A hard battle was going on between Herman and Milan on saturday, with very close racing, but Milan's gearbox was the weakest link. Kolacny was out on sunday and lost valuable points. Bruhn had been mild on his turbo Honda engine during qualifications, but could not beat Jolink, who won the last four times he entered a race held at that track! (picture: Bruhn vs Jolink)

Then came two races at Drachten, more entries, less track time, and a rain out on sunday. Milan did a great personal best of 8.255 sec. during qualifications, but the bad weather kept him from using the new set-up to pick up the badly needed points. (picture: Kolacny vs. Van Schie)

Marc Vandenboer came to Drachten with a supercharger on the bike, and a new homemade frame. Then decided to run it on methanol, not allowed in the Topgas class. So Marc joined the Funny Bike class for the rest of the season.

At Hockenheim some Scandinavian racers came over to fill the field, but the Supertwin Topgas class was a side show there, with absolute priority for the FIA-cars and UEM-bikes. Not the best conditions for a fair championship race. And so they became the first victim of the rain. Anna-lena Asplund was the quickest qualifier, no race on Sunday.

Then it was back to Holland for the third time at airfield Drachten. The place was a bigger swamp then the previous time, so pitting was extra difficult, but some were lucky and got a concrete floor. A huge effort was made by racers club eXplosion, but they were overpowered by bad weater for the third time.

With barely time to dry the tent, it was time to go to Denmark for the last race, and it was Milan Kolacny's last chance to try and pass Herman Jolink. I dared not look at the weather forecast. But this time we were lucky, not a drop of rain! And Johnny Winter live on stage.

Good news came from race controle: Last year only the best five of day one were in the "shoot out" of day two. But this year they gave all the STTG riders track time on both days, so the championship would have a fair ending.
A total of five round were planned on the 1/8 mile, and that's what we got! The track was well prepaired and conditions were great.

Chris van Nimmen had replaced the big old motor of his "Mack Attack" with a 160 ci. Gary Stroud engine in the middle of the season.

Chris runs it on two carbs, wants to fit injection in the winter. He used the track time to tune the engine further.

Harry van Schie's bike did not run well, he could not do better then 5.40 sec.

Harry stayed just ahead of Christian Bruhn...

...who did a 5.42 as best result.

Lando Beugelsdijk tried hard to set a quick time:

He got down to 5.3 seconds, enough to make it to the third place in the championship, ahead of Van Schie and Bruhn. Herman Jolink did better: 5.2.

Bernd Niessen did a great new personal best of 5.015

Too bad Milan Kolacny could not even get near Herman Jolink at Mosten Racedays and make it more exciting till the end.

Milan had been chasing Herman the whole season, but had to throw the towel in the ring. His airbox exploded,

and the Czech team packed in and went home early after congratulating Herman Jolink with the 2011 championship title.
Just like last year, the guy who won the first race also won the championship. Ducati #1, then a Honda, that never happened before in the history of the class.

So only three of the seven races were totally completed. Let's hope 2012 will be sunny. More details on the new calender soon.
