Race #6:

Mosten Raceday (31 aug-1sept 2012) is the the biggest party for drag race fans in Denmark and far beyond.
If you've ever been there, you always want to go back.

It's a 1/8 mile sprint race, on a narrow road that's mosty used by the postman, and the farmers who live around the club house. But once a year, it's one of the best tracks in Europe, thanks to Holger and crew. And we enjoyed good weather all weekend.

A nice entree list of Superstreet and Funny bikes, Supertwins, and Top Fuel bikes, besides many more classes for the "Sportsmen", and even for the kinds, made the spectators fill the grandstands. A big breakfast buffet for everybody to start the day, and live music on stage at night. The race was held on friday and saturday, and the Topgassers and Funny bikes could pick up points for their European championship. Most of the Top Fuel Supertwins were in Tierp Arena the weekend before, and Nate Gagnon from Canada had already become the new European champion in his class with the Santa Pod finals still to come. Nate rides a 60-degree V-twin, just like his friend Samu Kemppainen from Finland, who talked him in to riding in Europe a few times last year. And now they came to Denmark to have a party.

The topgassers were "robbed" by Ulf Ögge (picture above) on his prostock Buell, no supprise he was quickest and fastest on both days. Batlle for second place was between Anna-Lena Asplund and Janne Gustavsson.

On Saturday during the last round Anna-Lena did 4.972 and passed Janne Gustavsson (Sweden) who did 5.050 earlier that day.

To win in Mosten, only the results of saturday count, but for the Euroserie, it's the combined result of both days that matters.

Milan Koláčný (Czech republic) is in the lead and was quicker (5.22) then his nearest opponent Herman Jolink from Holland on saturday.

But Herman managed to win some points back in Mosten as he was quicker on day one.

Chris van Nimmen moved up to place #3 in the championship, but went home with pain is his right arm as he hit the guardrail during his last attempt.

He stayed on the throttle, as he explained later to the audience, because he was sure he would have fallen is he had shut it off.

The exhaust pipes took the biggest blow, but Chris scared everybody for a short moment as it happened.

Jan Malmberg celebrated his fiftieth birthday and made fifth place on saturday with his twin blower Harley, squeezing himself between Milan (Honda) and Herman (Ducati) with a 5.24. Peter Niklas From Germany did 5.8 on friday with the turbo Honda called Blowjob1, but it produced nasty sounds at the end of the 1/8 mile at his first attempt and could not improve anymore later.

Still Peter picked up some points, and could still move up some places in the ranking, at the last race of the Euroserie in Oktober in Drachten, Holland. Harry van Schie didn't get the bike ready in time for Mosten, but will most certainly come then to try and prevent that from happening.

A new face in Topgas is Fredrik Schack, but with a familiar bike, Ulf Ögge's old racer.

Mosten was the second race for the young guy on this bike, and he's thinking of joining the Euroserie class next year.

Christian Bruhn was in the saddle of the Turbo Honda last year, as he and team mate Niklas take turns in riding it. Christian rides his Ducati 999 in the Superstreet Twin class this year, and fitted a wheelybar and slick for this occasion to join Topgassers, just like he did in Hockenheim.

The Duc is more reliable then the Honda, and Christian was quicker then Niklas on the second raceday.

Mats Larssen Larssen skipped a few rounds while wrenching on his turbo-Harley.

Milan Kolacny is unofficially the new euro-topgas-champion,

as Hernam Jolink already made a deal with INTERMOT Köln on the very same date.

So Jolink will not come to the Drachten finals in Oktober to try and bridge the
gap. Nobody can take the second place away from him anymore.

An all Swedish podium in Supertwin Top Gas:

What else happened?

Mogens Lund won the Superstreet class: 5.152 @ 227.85 Kmh before Jesper Johansson 5.172 @ 231.76kmh.
Peter Granica (picture below) made third place: 5.245.

Belgian Marc van den Boer upsets the Funny bikes this year with his methanol burning blown Harley-Davidson (below),

and Marc was the quickest in his class after the first round. In the second round he was passed by Sven Fagan, and these two guys also were quickest the next day. Mike Olie damaged a head. Maarten Zijlstra from Amsterdam had been working hard on his bike and was happy how it went. A third place on both days, and Maarten went home with an award and a big smile on his face. And just like at the last race in Drachten,

the big award went to "Paddy" Fagan (5.08) from Denmark on the Gator-Kawa.

Great flames were thrown by a Top Fuel Funny car. Henrik Christensen and team Neergaard did 60-foot passes for the licence.

The difference between Gasoline and Nitromethane? It's like the difference between handling a family barbeque and throwing hand granades! More nitro was supplied the big bikes.

After round one on friday, Samu Kemppainen(4.16) and Nate Gagnon (4.32sec @ 282 Kmh) were on top of the list, and nobody could catch them, no matter what they tried. All results of both days counted for them. After his first burnout, Nate's bike produced a loud bang ("I opened the throttle again") and Samu rushed over to see if all was still okay. Here he gives "thumbs up":

Trond J. Hoyberget from Norway made the biggest burnouts of all, "it's important to have a good launch pad" but stayed in place 3# (4.57sec).

He broke the chain on saturday afternoon, but came out again to try once more. Acke Riemer from Berlin was the best of the rest.
Erik Nielsen (Denmark) was unfortunate, he damaged the cylinder head of the bike that Charley Karling ran in the nineties. And he had no spare, so he was finished after round one.

In the Top Fuel bike class there were only three entrees. Fin Asserbo from Denmark with a real Topfueler, Ricard Gustavsson with his ultra fast Funny bike, and the heaviest machine of all, the experimental Puma parallel-twin by Gerard Willemse with Hans Olav Olstad from Norway in the saddle.

Gustavsson shot off with 4.18 sec, impressive, but not good for the overall quickest time (set by Kemppainen) needed to win the crown and the title "King of Mosten".

The 530 kilo heavy machine of Olstad spun the tire as he did 4.86. In the second round, Hans Olav left strong but after about 50 meters the gearbox sprag broke, the wear wheel locked, and the bike came to a halt.

It took some strong guys and heavy equipment to get it off the track. "It's the only part not designed by Puma" was Gerard's remark and he'd thinking about dumping the Bentec and run it "high gear" that will also reduce the weight. Everyting was checked for the next day, but the the second gear didn't work, so some more wrenching done on saturday morning.

Ricard managed to set the quickest time in the afternoon, 4.15 sec. but he was still not certain of the crown with one more round to go.

Below a picture of the handle bar with custom throttle grip.

Fin Asserbo came close to Olstad with 4.88. But Olstad used his last chance for his best shot of the weekend, and went 4.54 @ 272 Kmh on the bike called "Thunderstruck". While being towed back ,the last group of riders stopped half way down the track, got off their bikes, and applauded for the spectators and track crew. A great gesture that came from the heart.

As the cherry on the cake, Stig Neergaard ran the Top Fuel dragster, nice big flames and more thunder to be heard.

Too bad the blower belt snapped half way down the track

Not all vehicles produced much noise, as we saw the appearance of a home made Danish electric drag bike. The only sound you heard was rubber squeeking. It competed in the Supercomp bike class and qualified right in the middle of that class. It was a great experience for the "True Cousins" who will be back next year.

The Supertwin Top Fuel podium:

Ricard Gustavsson became King Of Mosten for the third time after winning the
award in 2007 and 2010.

After the prize giving ceremony, it got hilarious with Die Österreiche Kasserollenspielen Kvartet, then things got really loud.

And while everybody enjoyed "Thunderstruck" by Back in Black on live stage, Gerard took the Thunderstruck engine out of the frame and completely took it apart. Then he took it to his workshop for some improvements, then rush to Santa Pod to try again.

One last big breakfast at the buffet on sunday morning and everybody went home satisfied! The next Mosten Raceday will be held on the weekend of the 5th of september 2013.

See you all in Drachten.
