Race #2, Shakespeare County Raceway.
Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the British National Association of Supertwins, the NAST riders were pleased to see the Europeans come over for the second race in the serie of seven.

Harry van Schie won the topgas race last time at "Shakey", ten years ago, and came over for his first race in the serie this season.

The team had made big changes tothe top end of the engine of the ex-Heezen blown Harley, after problems with the valves, the previous two seasons. Mechanic Jaap deserved a holyday after that, so they were absent at Hoskovice.
The boys from Holland arrived late at the track, and skipped the first round, and have an easy start.

The weater was very cool and windy on friday, but conditions were perfect during all race days.
Already a much betterstart of the season so far.

Defending champion Milan Kolacny and Herman Jolink, his rival for the last few years, were the first to make a check-out pass, to see what the track could do for them.

Nast and the spectators were promissed 8 second runs, and hard racing, and that's what they got (and even more, later).

Milan went 8.816...

...and Herman did 0.001 second better.

For Kolacny it was the only time slip he got, for Jolink it was the beginning of his routine, and managed to get his time down to 8.33, then 8.31, very close to to his personal best of 8.275 sec on the quarter mile.
On sunday afternoon the strip was sprayed with track-bite just before the class ran, and so the track was at it's best. Harry van Schie was already in pre-stage and Herman Jolink was about to do the same, all focussed on his ride. Then a fireman made a gesture, getting Jolink's attention. The visor of Herman's helmet was still open for half an inch, but not a safety issue at all. Herman conpletely lost concentration after that, and made some mistakes using the Ducati six speed gearbox without a shift light. He still did 8.40, not bad at all, but a lot of energy wasted and maybe even a PB. Everybody understood that the fireman did not contribute to the safety of het game. So they appologised and prevented it from happening again.

Closest to the strip lives Chris van Nimmen, and for Dragteam Hellgium it was also the first time to come out this year. Chris went quick and fast at the last race of last season. But unfortunately he bruised his right arm when he touched the guard rail at top end, end he suffered for a couple of months off it. So he lost precious time to prepare the bike, and skipped the season's opener. After the first few round of qualifications, Chris was smiling with his results so far: "If can keep doing 8.8's all weekend here, I'm satisfied". He qualfied fourth place with 8.6 , that's a new personal best! A little more wrenching then neccesary, his chef cook swapped two gearbox parts when he cleared the table for diner. So he had to work some more while he could be drinking beer.

Harry van Schie managed to be quicker then Chris, still looking for a baseline and the proper mapping for the lowered dispalacement of the fuel injected bike.

Third place during qualifications put him into the semi's agains Herman Jolink, so he managed to avoid the strongest opponent, the new kid on the strip.
Meet Mr Fredrik Schack:

Frederik's second place in Hoskovice made the Schack family allow the men to go to Shakey as well, altough it was not their intentional plan. First run it looked a bit like the last race, not all systems go, yet, but that turned out dad's mistake, wrong set-up of of the clutch. Second time out he made everybody cheer, not just his dad. 7.8 Howdy dowdy!

Fredrick was not only able to back up his performance but also better it.
Fredrik met Milan Kolacny at the start light in the third round of qualifications.
Milan had fitted a new sliderclutch and the bike sounded more agressive then ever during his warm-up in the pits.
Schack did an almost perfect run:

That's 267 Kmh for us Europeans.

Milan Kolacny bike responded much later and when the new clutch released the power, the bike pulled to the left, and the rider was not able to stay in his lane. Fredrik was already way ahead, when it happened, and Milan went off throttle, and was able to steer back into his own lane before the finish.

Turned out Milan's clutch was damaged, and also the engine.

In fact he already shreaded three engines this season. And will probably not be in shape again next race.

Fredrik Schack kept producing 7.8's for the rest of the weekend. The eliminations of the race were held on monday, because "the bank is closed so we don't work today", and it was no suprise Schack advanced to the finals after beating Chris van Nimmen in the semi:

Harry van Schie redlighted against Herman Jolink, who was calmed down by pit marshall Bev and was fully concentrated during eliminations.

Fredrik did take no risks against old fox Jolink, reacted a little later, went out to hunt and catch his prey.

A strong preformance by four of the five teams that showed up, and they all plan to race in Bechyne next weekend.
None of the five German teams were present last weekend, I really hope to see them all soon to give some competition to the new favorite of the season.
